On Saturday, 31 August 2024, at night at 4:40, in Kretingos district municipality, on the Šiauliai–Palanga main road (kilometre 117.70), a Mercedes-Benz hit a pedestrian away from any crossing. One person died — a 19-year-old pedestrian. The accident was caused by the 58-year-old driver of the Mercedes-Benz (40 years of driving experience), who failed to keep a safe distance.
