On Monday, 15 September 2014, in the afternoon at around 16:00, in Kaunas, on S. Dariaus ir S. Girėno street, at the junction with F. Vaitkaus street, a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved an Alfa Romeo 166 and a Mercedes-Benz CLK200. One person was injured — a 80-year-old passenger of the Mercedes-Benz (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 58-year-old driver of the Alfa Romeo (less than a year of driving experience), who committed other traffic rule violations. He was drunk (2.69‰ blood alcohol) and had no driving licence. At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
