On Saturday, 19 March 2016, in the evening at 19:40, in Šilalės district municipality, on the Mažeikiai–Plungė–Tauragė national road (kilometre 106.08), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved an Audi 80 Avant and an Opel Zafira. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 27-year-old driver of the Audi, who violated overtaking rules. He had no driving licence and fled the scene. Both drivers were sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
