On Friday, 22 April 2016, in the evening at 22:07, in Birštono municipality, Škėvonių village, on the Vilnius–Prienai–Marijampolė main road (kilometre 93.11), a Mercedes-Benz E270 CDI hit a pedestrian away from any crossing. The accident was caused by a 66-year-old pedestrian, who was crossing the carriageway where prohibited, was crossing the carriageway outside a crossing where there are vehicle or pedestrian barriers, was walking at night without reflectors (light, hi-vis vest) and was walking on the carriageway where prohibited. The driver was sober. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was raining, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
