On Monday, 11 July 2016, in the morning at 6:40, in Prienų district municipality, on the Kaunas–Marijampolė–Suvalkai main road (kilometre 30.31), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved an Audi A4 and a Honda CR-V registered in Latvia. Two people died — a 42-year-old passenger of the Audi and the 39-year-old driver of the Audi. Four people were injured — a passenger of the Audi (hospitalized), the 53-year-old driver of the Honda (hospitalized), a passenger of the Audi (hospitalized) and a 53-year-old passenger of the Honda (hospitalized, was not wearing a seatbelt). Both drivers were sober. At the time of the accident it was overcast, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
