On Friday, 22 July 2016, in the afternoon at 16:15, in Šiauliai, on Vilniaus street near No. 8, a BMW 525 D hit a pedestrian away from any crossing. One person was injured — a 33-year-old pedestrian (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 27-year-old driver of the BMW (8 years of driving experience), who failed to fulfil pedestrian duties and failed to keep a safe distance. He fled the scene. The driver was sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 20 km/h.
