On Saturday, 6 August 2016, in the evening at 21:13, in Šiauliai, on Varpo street, at the junction with Aušros al., an Opel Astra hit a pedestrian at a pedestrian crossing. One person was injured — a 26-year-old pedestrian (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 21-year-old driver of the Opel, who failed to fulfil pedestrian duties. He had no driving licence. The driver was sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
