On Wednesday, 24 August 2016, in the evening at 17:40, in Kauno district municipality, on the Kaunas–Zarasai–Daugpilis (kelio ruožo su skir. juosta d. pusė) main road (kilometre 14), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved a Volkswagen Transporter and a Volkswagen Passat. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 38-year-old driver of the Volkswagen Transporter, who failed to keep a safe distance and failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk and had no driving licence. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
