On Sunday, 8 January 2017, in the evening at around 20:00, in Kauno district municipality, on the Kaunas–Zapyškis–Šakiai national road (kilometre 11.09), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved a Mazda 6 and a Volvo S70. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 44-year-old driver of the Mazda (24 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. He fled the scene. Both drivers were sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was overcast, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
