On Tuesday, 24 January 2017, in the afternoon at 13:55, in Pagėgių municipality, on the Kaunas–Jurbarkas–Šilutė–Klaipėda national road (kilometre 149.26), a head-on collision while overtaking occurred. The collision involved a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, a trailer/semi-trailer > 10 t, a Skoda Yeti and a Scania R 420LA. One person died — the 34-year-old driver of the Skoda. Two people were injured — the 20-year-old driver of the Mercedes-Benz (hospitalized) and a 43-year-old passenger of the Skoda (severely injured, hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 20-year-old driver of the Mercedes-Benz (2 years of driving experience), who committed other traffic rule violations, violated overtaking rules, failed to choose a safe speed and entered the oncoming traffic lane. All drivers were sober. At the time of the accident it was overcast, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
