On Friday, 27 July 2018, at night at 1:30, in Kauno city municipality, on the Vilnius–Kaunas–Klaipėda (d. pusė) main road (kilometre 100.98), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved a BMW 320 registered in Great Britain and a Volkswagen Passat. Two people were injured — a 18-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen (treated as an outpatient) and a 18-year-old passenger of the BMW (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 27-year-old driver of the BMW (10 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. Both drivers were sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was lit, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 80 km/h.
