On Wednesday, 3 October 2018, in the morning at 10:30, in Utenos district municipality, on J. Basanavičiaus street, at the junction with Užpalių street, an Audi hit a pedestrian at a pedestrian crossing. Two people were injured — a 39-year-old pedestrian (treated as an outpatient) and a 64-year-old pedestrian (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 70-year-old driver of the Audi (52 years of driving experience), who failed to fulfil pedestrian duties. The driver was sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was raining, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
