On Saturday, 8 December 2018, in the morning at 8:25, in Kauno district municipality, on the Kaunas–Zapyškis–Šakiai national road (kilometre 21.50), a collision while turning left (U-turning) occurred. The collision involved a Volvo S80 and a Chrysler 300C. Three people were injured — a 64-year-old passenger of the Chrysler (severely injured, hospitalized), the 67-year-old driver of the Chrysler (severely injured, hospitalized) and a 21-year-old passenger of the Volvo (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 23-year-old driver of the Volvo (3 years of driving experience), who entered the oncoming traffic lane. Both drivers were sober. At the time of the accident it was raining, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
