On Wednesday, 2 January 2019, in the evening at around 21:00, in Varėnos district municipality, on the Vilnius–Varėna–Gardinas main road (kilometre 104.41), a Renault Megane Scenic registered in Belarus hit an obstacle. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 35-year-old driver of the Renault (16 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. The driver was sober. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was snowing, the road surface was snow-covered. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
