On Wednesday, 13 January 2021, in the afternoon at 16:37, in Trakų district municipality, on the Vilnius–Prienai–Marijampolė main road (kilometre 35), a head-on collision while overtaking occurred. The collision involved a Citroen Berlingo, a MAN TGX, a Fiat and a Carnehl. Five people died — a 37-year-old passenger of the Fiat, a 29-year-old passenger of the Fiat, a 27-year-old passenger of the Fiat, the 18-year-old driver of the Fiat (had no driving licence) and a 17-year-old passenger of the Fiat. One person was injured — the 62-year-old driver of the Citroen (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 62-year-old driver of the Citroen (35 years of driving experience), who violated overtaking rules. All drivers were sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was snowing, the road surface was snow-covered. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
