On Sunday, 16 April 2023, in the afternoon at 12:30, in Klaipėdos district municipality, on the Vilnius–Kaunas–Klaipėda (d. pusė) main road (kilometre 272.05), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved a Volvo XC90 and a Mercedes-Benz. Five people were injured — the 70-year-old driver of the Volvo (severely injured, hospitalized), a 44-year-old passenger of the Mercedes-Benz (severely injured, hospitalized), a 72-year-old passenger of the Volvo (hospitalized), a 68-year-old passenger of the Volvo (hospitalized) and the 19-year-old driver of the Mercedes-Benz (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 70-year-old driver of the Volvo (17 years of driving experience), who failed to give way when changing direction. Both drivers were sober. At the time of the accident it was raining, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 130 km/h.
