On Sunday, 20 March 2016, at night at 3:40, in Kauno district municipality, Alšėnų village, on the Kaunas–Marijampolė–Suvalkai (kelio ruožo su skir. juosta k. pusė) main road (kilometre 10), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved a Renault Magnum 480 registered in Poland, a Samro ST39MH registered in Poland and a Renault Master. Two people were injured — the 40-year-old driver of the Renault Master (hospitalized) and a 21-year-old passenger of the Renault Magnum 480 (severely injured, hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 58-year-old driver of the Renault Magnum 480 (26 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. Both drivers were sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was snowing, the road surface was snow-covered. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
