On Wednesday, 24 October 2018, in the evening at 18:45, in Kauno district municipality, Naugardiškės village, on the Kaunas–Prienai–Alytus national road (kilometre 6.80), a BMW X6 Xdrive 30D hit a pedestrian at a pedestrian crossing. Two people were injured — a 80-year-old pedestrian (treated as an outpatient) and a 70-year-old pedestrian (severely injured, hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 68-year-old driver of the BMW (43 years of driving experience), who failed to fulfil pedestrian duties. The driver was sober. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was lit, it was raining, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
