On Thursday, 24 January 2019, in the morning at 6:30, in Birštono municipality, on the Vilnius–Prienai–Marijampolė main road (kilometre 90), a Volkswagen Touran hit an obstacle. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 46-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (38 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. He fled the scene. The driver was sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was twilight, the weather was clear, the road surface was snow-covered. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
