On Sunday, 7 July 2024, in the afternoon at 13:21, in Šilalės district municipality, Katyčių village, on the Vilnius–Kaunas–Klaipėda (k. pusė) main road (kilometre 225.60), a Hyundai i 30 registered in Czechia ran off the road. Two people were injured — the driver of the Hyundai (treated as an outpatient) and a passenger of the Hyundai (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the driver of the Hyundai (45 years of driving experience), who fell asleep at the wheel. The driver was sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was raining, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 130 km/h.
