On Friday, 9 December 2016, in the morning at 6:30, in Prienų district municipality, on the Kaunas–Marijampolė–Suvalkai main road (kilometre 27.40), a head-on collision while overtaking occurred. The collision involved an Opel Vectra-B-Caravan and a BMW 520. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 46-year-old driver of the Opel (22 years of driving experience), who failed to comply with road signs or markings, violated overtaking rules and entered the oncoming traffic lane. He was drunk (0.43‰ blood alcohol). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was overcast, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
