On Saturday, 6 January 2018, in the morning at around 7:00, in Šilalės district municipality, Girsteikių village, on the Vilnius–Kaunas–Klaipėda (k. pusė) main road (kilometre 222), a Nissan X-Trail ran off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 48-year-old driver of the Nissan (10 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. The driver was sober. At the time of the accident it was dark, it was overcast, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 110 km/h.
