On Wednesday, 16 September 2020, in the evening at 21:15, in Šilalės district municipality, Paupio village, on the Vilnius–Kaunas–Klaipėda (k. pusė) main road (kilometre 225.17), in a roadworks zone, a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a BMW X5, a Mercedes-Benz R320 and a Toyota Auris. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 37-year-old driver of the BMW (20 years of driving experience), who entered the oncoming traffic lane. All drivers were sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
