On Saturday, 15 May 2021, in the evening at around 21:00, in Varėnos district municipality, on the Vilnius–Varėna–Gardinas main road (kilometre 101.70), a Honda Civic ran off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the driver of the Honda (less than a year of driving experience), who exceeded the speed set by traffic rules or road signs. The driver was sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was overcast, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
