On Friday, 18 February 2022, in the evening at around 21:00, in Šiaulių district municipality, on the Ryga–Šiauliai–Tauragė–Kaliningradas main road (kilometre 65), a Volkswagen Passat ran off the road. One person was injured — a 17-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 21-year-old driver of the Volkswagen, who failed to choose a safe speed. He had no driving licence. The driver was sober. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was overcast, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
