On Thursday, 19 September 2024, in the afternoon at around 11:00, in Šilalės district municipality, Košių I village, on the Vilnius–Kaunas–Klaipėda (d. pusė) main road (kilometre 211), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and a Mercedes-Benz 110 registered in Ukraine. One person died — the 25-year-old driver of the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter (was not wearing a seatbelt). One person was injured — the 57-year-old driver of the Mercedes-Benz 110 (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 25-year-old driver of the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter (5 years of driving experience), who failed to keep a safe distance. Both drivers were sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 130 km/h.
