Data use rules

How you may use ivykiuzemelapis.lt data, charts and diagrams, and how to credit the source.

  • Free for the media, research and non-commercial use

    Provided you credit the source — ivykiuzemelapis.lt. This applies to publications by commercial media outlets too.

  • Commercial use — by agreement only

    If the data will become part of a product or service you sell, write to [email protected] first and we will agree the terms.

  • Bulk automated collection is prohibited

    The site's content may not be collected with bots or scripts, and the database may not be copied in whole or in part. This applies to all data, not only Premium.

How to credit the source

In print, on TV or radio, naming the site is enough. Online, add a link to the specific accident or chart page.

Source: ivykiuzemelapis.lt

When you use a chart or a scene diagram, don't crop out the ivykiuzemelapis.lt credit on it. If you have reworked the data or combined it with other sources, write “based on ivykiuzemelapis.lt data”.

What these rules cover

The rules cover the content and work created on this site:

  • corrected accident locations and other corrected accident attributes;
  • the automatically reconstructed scene diagrams;
  • charts, rates and other analysis;
  • accident descriptions and headlines;
  • the linking of different sources (police register, daily summaries, press releases) and the links to news reports;
  • this whole collection as a database.

The site's database is protected by the database maker's (sui generis) right under the Law on Copyright and Related Rights of the Republic of Lithuania.

What is allowed with credit
  • news stories, articles, reports, TV and radio programmes — in commercial media outlets too;
  • academic research, student work, training and lectures;
  • analysis, reports and presentations by public bodies, municipalities, communities and NGOs;
  • personal use and sharing on social media.

You may quote individual facts and figures and use screenshots of charts, diagrams and pages. We'd be grateful if you sent us a link to the publication that used the data.

Commercial use

Commercial use requires prior written consent. Use is commercial when the data becomes part of a product or service that is sold, for example:

  • reselling the data or passing it on to others;
  • including it in apps, websites, maps or datasets;
  • insurance, real-estate, logistics or other risk assessment;
  • consultancy reports and studies for clients;
  • advertising and marketing.

Media publications do not count as commercial use. Terms are agreed case by case — write to [email protected].

What is prohibited
  • bulk automated collection of content — by bots, scripts, scrapers or crawlers, including direct requests to the site's API;
  • copying the whole database or a substantial part of it, or systematically copying smaller parts that together amount to a substantial part;
  • collecting content to train artificial-intelligence models or for other text and data mining;
  • presenting the data as your own or as official statistics without crediting the source;
  • circumventing the site's protection measures and usage limits.

With these rules we reserve our rights to text and data mining (Article 4(3) of EU Directive 2019/790). Search-engine crawlers indexing the site for search results are not restricted by this.

If you need the data in bulk, for research for example, write to [email protected] — we can agree on a dataset.

Third-party content
  • The underlying accident records are open data from the Police Department under the Ministry of the Interior (CC BY 4.0) — you can also get them straight from the source.
  • Photos and videos belong to their authors — clear their use with the authors or the credited source.
  • Base maps (CARTO / OpenStreetMap, Esri, ORT10LT) are used under their own licences: when you use a screenshot of the map, credit them too.
  • All sources are listed on the About page.
Accuracy and liability

ivykiuzemelapis.lt is an independent project and not an official source of statistics. The data is provided as is: some locations and attributes have been corrected automatically or by the author, and the scene diagrams are reconstructed automatically and are illustrative.

For official figures, contact the Police Department or the Lithuanian Transport Safety Administration. If you spot a mistake, write to [email protected].
