Unlicensed AWE moped driver and Opel crash on the Vilnius–Varėna–Gardinas road
On Sunday, 13 October 2013, in the afternoon at 15:53, in Varėnos district municipality, on the Vilnius–Varėna–Gardinas main road (kilometre 87.38), a collision with a moped occurred. The collision involved an AWE and an Opel Astra. Two people were injured — the 19-year-old driver of the AWE (treated as an outpatient, was not wearing a helmet) and a 15-year-old passenger of the AWE (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 19-year-old driver of the AWE, who failed to give way when changing direction. She had no driving licence. Both drivers were sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
