On Saturday, 15 February 2014, in the evening at 21:46, in Šalčininkų district municipality, on the Babriškės–Varėna–Eišiškės national road (kilometre 42.21), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved an Audi A6 and a Volkswagen Golf. One person died — a 17-year-old passenger of the Audi. Two people were injured — the 34-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (hospitalized) and a 37-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 22-year-old driver of the Audi (4 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. Both drivers were sober. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was overcast, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
