Peugeot Partner and Audi crash on the Ignalina–Didžiasalis road
On Friday, 9 January 2015, in the evening at around 18:00, in Ignalinos district municipality, Maksimonių village, on the Ignalina–Didžiasalis national road (kilometre 5.46), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a Peugeot Partner and an Audi A4. One person died — a 84-year-old passenger of the Peugeot (later died from the injuries, was not wearing a seatbelt). Two people were injured — a 50-year-old passenger of the Peugeot (treated as an outpatient) and a 85-year-old passenger of the Peugeot (severely injured, hospitalized, was not wearing a seatbelt). The accident was caused by the 55-year-old driver of the Peugeot (27 years of driving experience), who entered the oncoming traffic lane. Both drivers were sober. At the time of the accident it was twilight, it was snowing, the road surface was snow-covered. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
