On Saturday, 7 February 2015, at night at 2:27, in Kupiškio district municipality, on the Kupiškis–Utena national road (kilometre 17.55), a Mazda 323 rolled over. One person died — a 46-year-old passenger of the Mazda (was not wearing a seatbelt). One person was injured — a 47-year-old passenger of the Mazda (hospitalized, was not wearing a seatbelt). The accident was caused by the 18-year-old driver of the Mazda, who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (1.29‰ blood alcohol), had no driving licence and fled the scene. A 47-year-old passenger of the Mazda was drunk (1.54‰). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was overcast, the road surface was wet.
