Drunk, unlicensed driver and Opel crash on the Babriškės–Varėna–Eišiškės road
On Saturday, 6 June 2015, at night at around 23:00, in Varėnos district municipality, on the Babriškės–Varėna–Eišiškės national road (kilometre 18.90), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved an Audi 80 and an Opel Astra. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 23-year-old driver of the Audi, who failed to choose a safe speed and entered the oncoming traffic lane. He was drunk (2.69‰ blood alcohol) and had no driving licence. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
