On Monday, 17 October 2016, in the afternoon at 11:10, in Šilalės district municipality, on the Vilnius–Kaunas–Klaipėda (d. pusė) main road (kilometre 239.40), a Volvo FH12 registered in Russia hit an obstacle. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 49-year-old driver of the Volvo (24 years of driving experience), who failed to keep a safe distance and failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (2.52‰ blood alcohol). According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
