On Friday, 30 December 2016, in the evening at around 19:00, in Kaunas, on Savanorių pr., at the junction with Birželio 23-iosios street, a collision while turning left (U-turning) occurred. The collision involved an Opel Zafira and an Opel Astra. One person was injured — a 35-year-old passenger of the Opel Astra (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 46-year-old driver of the Opel Zafira (2 years of driving experience), who failed to comply with road signs or markings and failed to give way when crossing an intersection. Both drivers were sober. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was lit, it was overcast, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
