On Wednesday, 13 September 2017, in the evening at 21:55, in Varėnos district municipality, Matuizų village, on Dzūkų street near No. 6, a Volkswagen Passat ran off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 50-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (31 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. He fled the scene. The driver was sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA).
