On Monday, 17 January 2022, in the morning at 8:50, in Kupiškio district municipality, on the Kupiškis–Utena national road (kilometre 4.60), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved an Opel Meriva - A and a Ford Galaxy. Three people were injured — the 71-year-old driver of the Opel (hospitalized), a 22-year-old passenger of the Ford (treated as an outpatient) and the 52-year-old driver of the Ford (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 71-year-old driver of the Opel (20 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. Both drivers were sober.
