On Thursday, 25 January 2024, in the evening at 20:58, in Šiaulių district municipality, on the Ryga–Šiauliai–Tauragė–Kaliningradas main road (kilometre 61), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved an Audi A6 and a Volvo V50. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 35-year-old driver of the Audi, who failed to give way when changing direction. He was drunk (1.55‰ blood alcohol), had no driving licence and fled the scene. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was overcast, the road surface was icy. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
