On Thursday, 26 December 2013, in the evening at 22:10, in Vilniaus district municipality, on the Vilnius–Šumskas national road (kilometre 31), a Volkswagen Passat rolled over. One person died — a 42-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen (was not wearing a seatbelt). Three people were injured — the 45-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (hospitalized, was not wearing a seatbelt), a 35-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen (hospitalized, was not wearing a seatbelt) and a 35-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 45-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (10 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (2.47‰ blood alcohol). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was overcast, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
