On Sunday, 20 August 2017, at night at around 23:00, in Kauno district municipality, on the Kaunas–Marijampolė–Suvalkai main road (kilometre 1.02), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a BMW 318CI and a Scania R 480. One person died — the 19-year-old driver of the BMW. One person was injured — the 45-year-old driver of the Scania (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 19-year-old driver of the BMW (less than a year of driving experience), who entered the oncoming traffic lane. Both drivers were sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA).
