BMW and two other vehicles crash on the Kaunas–Marijampolė–Suvalkai road
On Thursday, 5 October 2017, in the evening at 19:23, in Marijampolės municipality, on the Kaunas–Marijampolė–Suvalkai main road (kilometre 56.10), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a BMW, a SPA registered in Bulgaria, a Schmitz SKO 24 registered in Latvia, a Volvo FH12 - 4X2T registered in Latvia and a Mercedes-Benz 923 registered in Bulgaria. One person was injured — a 22-year-old passenger of the BMW (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 22-year-old driver of the BMW (less than a year of driving experience), who entered the oncoming traffic lane. All drivers were sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). The SPA had recorded faults (kito konstrukcijos elemento, padangų and šviesos prietaisų). At the time of the accident it was twilight, it was overcast, it was raining, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
