BMW and Volkswagen crash on the Kaunas–Prienai–Alytus road
On Friday, 15 February 2019, in the evening at 22:30, in Kauno district municipality, on the Kaunas–Prienai–Alytus (kelio ruožo su skir. juosta d. pusė) national road (kilometre 6.85), a collision while turning left (U-turning) occurred. The collision involved a BMW 525 D and a Volkswagen Passat. One person was injured — the 23-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 18-year-old driver of the BMW (less than a year of driving experience), who failed to give way when crossing an intersection. Both drivers were sober. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was lit, it was overcast, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
