On Wednesday, 20 January 2021, in the evening at 20:10, in Šilalės district municipality, Paupio village, on the Vilnius–Kaunas–Klaipėda (d. pusė) main road (kilometre 224.02), a side collision with neither vehicle turning occurred. The collision involved a Chrysler PT Cruiser and a Skoda Octavia. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 50-year-old driver of the Chrysler (25 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. Both drivers were sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was snowing, the road surface was snow-covered. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
