On Tuesday, 4 January 2022, in the afternoon at 13:26, in Šilalės district municipality, Paupio village, on the Vilnius–Kaunas–Klaipėda (d. pusė) main road (kilometre 224), a BMW ran off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 47-year-old driver of the BMW (28 years of driving experience), who committed other traffic rule violations. He was drunk (0.50‰ blood alcohol). At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 110 km/h.
