E-scooters became an everyday sight in Lithuanian cities within a few years — and so did their crashes. In 2025, 201 e-scooter riders were involved in injury crashes and 150 of them were hurt. Many of the injured are children and teenagers, and in more than half of the crashes the rider was the one at fault.

More riders hurt every year

The police register has had a separate e-scooter category since March 2022, but used it unevenly that year, so reliable comparisons start in 2023. 119 riders were hurt that year, 136 in 2024 and 150 in 2025 — a quarter more in two years. Two riders died over the whole period, both in 2023.

Who gets hurt: one in two is under 25

Of the 480 e-scooter riders hurt in 2022–2025, 190 (40%) were minors, 81 of them under 14. Add the 18–24-year-olds and riders under 25 make up more than half of all casualties. Most riders involved in crashes (62%) were male.

The same trend shows in the wider picture: in 2025, 28% more teenagers aged 12–17 were injured than the 2022–2024 average (more in the 2025 review).

Often at fault themselves

In 2025, 108 of the 201 riders involved in crashes were found to be at fault — 54%, up from 38% in 2022. 7% were drunk (46 of 657 over four years with a reading of 0.4‰ or more). An e-scooter is fast but nothing protects its rider: any collision or fall ends in injury.

Where and when

E-scooter crashes are a city phenomenon. 143 riders were hurt in Vilnius (30%), 62 in Kaunas and 41 in Klaipėda. The season is short: 78% of these crashes happen between May and October, most of them in September, when the school year starts. Through the day they peak in the afternoon and evening: 45% of riders were hurt between 2 and 7 pm.

About the figures

Only road users the police marked as e-scooter riders are counted here. Riders of other light electric vehicles (e-boards, unicycles) — or some e-scooter riders — may be filed under other categories, such as cyclists, so the real number of micromobility casualties is most likely higher. And only crashes reported to the police are counted: a fall with nobody else involved often isn't.

The monthly e-scooter trend is in the "The e-scooter surge" chart, and the crashes themselves are on the map with the "E-scooters" filter.
